This Year's Gold Medal Winners
of the Set A Good Example Contests

Megan's Project: "Show Someone you Care — Donate a Bear"

Meagan's goal was to make nursing home residents feel special on Valentine's Day. Though she is only 8 years old, she persuaded her church priest to hold a Teddy Bear Drive at church during catechism classes and made Valentine's Day cards. Megan made heart-shaped pins with "I Care" on them for everyone who donated a bear and included a lollipop for extra incentive.

She collected 119 bears, boxed them, and delivered them on Valentine's Day to a very happy elderly population. She is already collecting bears for next year and as a result of the experience, she visits the elderly often and helps with thier games and activities.

She first visited a nursing home when she was in preschool and since then she wanted to go back and visit, so the elderly would not be lonely. Megan feels good about making people happy, setting a good example, and fulfilling her obligations to society.

Great job Megan!

Next week you will hear more, in detail, about the National Gold Medal winners this year.
